As of late Friday afternoon (June 9th), the vote to affirm Justin Driscoll in the Senate did not take place, and the session is closed for 2023. In response to the Senate's lack of affirmation of Justin Driscoll as NYPA President, we expect that he will remain as NYPA's President on an interim basis. We, as the men and women of the bargaining unit, will continue to support NYPA's Vision 2030 and Justin Driscoll. He recently traveled to all the NYPA sites to discuss NYPA’s next steps with employees.

SUNY Canton hosted an event that marked the completion and energization of the NYPA Smart Path Project. Justin Driscoll attended the event along with Bill Brown and Ben Murtagh. Please see the attached link with the full press release and quote from IBEW Local 2032. Smart Path Press Release

The final copy of the General Safety Rule Book was signed this week. Work has continued to complete the Electrical Safety Program as well. Both Local 2104 and 2032 have been working with the company to get this accomplished. It is a positive step in the right direction. The next large project will be to tackle the Job Description Manual.

We have received an audit waiver renewal for the fiscal year term of July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, from the Third District VP Dennis Affinati. This is a significant cost savings for the union this year. Bill will meet with our Third District Rep, Julie Cosenza, to go over the audit books and documents prepared by the office in August.

Bill and Ben met with the lobbyist in mid-May. They had the opportunity to discuss important issues with many Legislators and Senators regarding the NY retirement system. They worked closely with them last week to assist with the Justin Driscoll appointment, who will stay on as an interim NYPA President.

More than 40 students from North Country school districts and NYPA participated in a drone soccer game at Madrid-Waddington High School on Tuesday, May 30th. You can read the complete news story by clicking on the link below. Drone Soccer
