Electrical Workers (IBEW) International President Lonnie Stephenson (pictured above, left) is retiring, effective Jan. 4, bringing an end to a nearly five-decade active career in the union. During his tenure as international president, Stephenson helped the IBEW’s organizing efforts reach new heights as membership grew yearly. He deepened the IBEW’s commitment to diversity, inclusion and equity, stewarding the IBEW Strong program to bring more people of color and women into the union. The International Executive Council appointed International Secretary-Treasurer Kenneth W. Cooper (above right) to fill the remainder of Stephenson’s term and Sixth District International Vice President Paul Noble to fill the remainder of Cooper’s term.

Third District International Vice President Mike Welsh (left) retired on Oct. 1, ending an IBEW career that began just after he graduated from high school and included five years in his final position. Dennis Affinati (right) has been appointed by International President Lonnie R. Stephenson as international vice president for the IBEW's Third District following Michael Welsh's retirement. The union's International Executive Council unanimously approved Affinati's appointment, which is effective Oct. 1.
